Great Smokies Summer Assembly

2010 marks the 73rd anniversary of the Great Smokies Summer Assembly of York Rite Masons in Maggie Valley, North Carolina. This year’s events will be held July 11, 12, 13.

This year’s keynote will be given by Most Worshipful Brother William Dill, Grand Master of the Grand Lodge AF&AM of North Carolina. Also scheduled to speak are:

Christopher Hodapp, Past Master
Author of: “Freemasonry for Dummies”

Dr. Rex R. Hutchens, PGM of Arizona
Author of: “Bridge of Light”

The Grand Council R. & S. M. officers of Florida on Thursday, May 13, 2010 traveled to Fernandina Beach, Florida to consecrate, dedicate, and constitute the new Athelstan Council No. 46, Royal & Select Masters of Florida. Most Illustrious Companion Howard H. Gardner, Most Illustrious Grand Master, with the assistance of the Grand Officers of the Grand Council R. & S. M. of Florida instituted the new Council in full ceremonial form.

After a short break, Most Illustrious Grand Master Howard H. Gardner, with the Assistance of Most Illustrious Companion Dencil R. Smith, MIPGM, R. I. Grand Recorder; and Robert C. St. John, Ill. Grand Marshal, installed the new officers of Athelstan Council. Illustrious Companion William P. Goldwire was installed as Illustrious Master.

Present for the ceremonies but not pictured since they had to leave immediately for a long journey home, were Richard E. Foreman, MIPGM, R.I. Grand Treasurer; and MIPGM Dencil R. Smith, MIPGM, R. I. Grand Recorder. Most Illustrious Companion Robert F. Scott, MIPGM, was also present, but did not get into the picture with other officers and M. I. Past Grand Masters.

A good number of ladies accompanied the Companions. A wonderful dinner was served, and everyone enjoyed a very memorable evening.

In accordance with Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution of The Most Excellent Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Florida and the need for communication to the Craft of the progress of programs to be implemented, i.e. Duties and Guidelines of Symbolic Lodge Representatives or Procedures for the Ritual Competition; I hereby direct that all committees submit a monthly report to the Grand High Priest, Grand King, Grand Scribe and Grand Secretary. Realizing that some committees may only function during specific times during the Capitular year, I further direct that for those committees, the report may read as follows: No activity during this period.

n accordance with Article 13.03, Section 13.03, Part J 1-3 of the Constitution of The Most Excellent Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Florida as amended by the 2007 proceedings and due to the fact that The Most Excellent Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons plans on conducting a ritual competition and that each Chapter should have an equal and fair opportunity to participate in this competition; I hereby direct that the District Instructors in conjunction with the District Deputy Grand High Priest and under the direction of the Committee on Work hold no less than two (2) schools of instruction, at each constituent Chapter, within their respective Districts.

Lady Judith Ann Baldoni, wife of S. K. Ideal F. Baldoni, REPGC, Grand Prelate, was
presented with the coveted Companion of the Temple award during the Grand York Rite Banquet at the Florida Grand York Rite Convention on Friday, April 16, 2010, in Lake Mary.

Sir Knight Terry L. Plemons, KCT, Right Eminent Department Commander for the Southeast Department of the U. S., presented the award to Lady Judith Ann for her devotion and outstanding service to the Grand Commandery, K. T. of Florida. Sir Knight Ideal Baldoni, then R. E. Grand Commander, now R. E. Past Grand Commander, Grand Prelate, assisted in pinning the jewel on Lady Judith Ann.
